Understand why you need a TRN…
Anyone can apply for a TRN, including non-Jamaicans and non-residents. A TRN is needed in order for you to transact business with key institutions e.g. Government Bodies, Banks, Schools, Examination boards etc. All Applicants (individuals and organisations) are required to register and receive a Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) by completing the relevant application form and submitting it to the TAJ.

Complete the relevant form(s) and provide any supporting information/documents…
Application Requirements:
- To apply for your TRN, you will be required to complete an application using the form - Application for taxpayer registration (individuals). This can be done in office or online.
- The application form should be printed, completed, signed and returned to the Taxpayer Registration Centre or the nearest tax office with the appropriate identification and supporting documentation as outlined below.
To apply using TRN Online, you should visit the TAJ Website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and log in to the TAJ Web Portal, select the “Apply for a TRN” hyperlink from the e‐Services home page.
Other supporting information/documents required for application…
- Jamaicans Applicants (Submit in Office)
- Your Passport or Driver’s License (and Marriage Certificate/Deed Poll if applicable)
If neither of these is available then see below:

- Your National ID/Voter’s ID, Work ID, School ID, or 2# professionally produced certified - passport size photographs must be used along with your Birth Certificate (and Marriage Certificate/Deed Poll if applicable).
- Non-Jamaican/Overseas Applicants (Submit via Mail)
- A copy of your Passport or Driver’s License (notarized by a Notary Public). Passport or Driver’s License must include your full name (last and first name), date of birth, photograph and signature.
It should be noted that only originals or certified/notarized copies of documents are accepted. The physical documents must be submitted with your TRN application.

Submit your completed application…
Once your application form(s) and supporting information/documents have been completed, signed and certified where required, you will need to visit the Taxpayer Registration Centre or the nearest tax office to submit your application.
Submission Requirements:
- It is important to note that while you may submit an application for your TRN online, the application is not considered complete until all the supporting documents have also been physically submitted to one of TAJ’s Offices/Collectorates for processing.
- If you are submitting your application form and supporting documents via mail from overseas then your TRN will be mailed to the address as stated on your application.
- If someone is being authorized to submit/collect your TRN, on your behalf, you will need to provide them with a letter of authorization, stamped and signed by a Justice of the Peace or a Notary Public.

Pay the relevant processing fees…
There is no fee associated with securing your TRN.
Processing Time:
- Regular Service - processed on the same day
- Overseas Service (mail) - processed on the same day that the completed application is physically received in-office.
Collect your approved document(s)…
Once submitted your physical documents are then examined to ensure that they are fully and accurately completed and to verify the information provided. If the documents are in order, then your TRN is issued the same day.
At the end of the process you will receive the following:
- Your individual TRN Slip or Letter
